Independence Township Recreation offers a Youth Field Hockey Program for girls in grades K–8. The program is open to participants throughout the Hackettstown High School sending district, as well as girls from surrounding communities that do not offer their own youth field hockey program.
Our 2nd-8th grade teams participate in the NJPA Field Hockey League, competing against programs throughout Northwest New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania. Our micro level (K-1st) is a clinic based program; practices one day a week and end their season with a round robin style tournament with all the surrounding towns.
Practices begin in mid-August, with games starting in early September. Games are typically played on Sundays, with occasional weekday games scheduled throughout the season.
Our program provides players with the opportunity to learn and develop fundamental field hockey skills, build teamwork and sportsmanship, and enjoy the game in a positive and supportive environment.
