Independence Township Recreation offers youth basketball programs for boys and girls in grades 1–8. Our program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of basketball, developing skills, promoting teamwork, and providing a positive and competitive team experience.
Grades 1–2 | Co-Ed League
The 1st and 2nd grade program is a co-ed, clinic-style league designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of basketball in a fun and supportive environment. The season begins with instructional practices and transitions to two games per week.
The season begins in early January, with all practices and games held at the Central School Gymnasium. This program is open to players from surrounding communities, provided their hometown does not offer a similar recreation basketball program.
Grades 3–4, 5–6 & 7–8 | Boys & Girls Leagues
Beginning in 3rd grade, players are divided into separate boys and girls leagues. Teams compete in the Eastern Warren County Basketball League against teams from Allamuchy and Hackettstown.
Practices begin in November, with games starting in early December. Each team plays a 10-game regular season, this may vary year to year depending on the amount of teams. These divisions are open to Independence Township residents only.
Our goal is to provide players of all skill levels with an opportunity to learn, compete, develop their basketball skills, and enjoy being part of a team.
